Premiere Performance

In the spring concert of 2009, Mississauga Choral Society presented, at the Living Arts Centre, the premiere performance of Creation: A Jazz Oratorio, written and composed by David Mott.  This work was commissioned by MCS and is acclaimed as the first jazz oratorio composed in Canada. The piece is written for chorus, jazz band, and four solo voices.

David Mott, following in the tradition of musicians such as Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Paul Horn and Paul Winter, has created a highly imaginative work that reflects a deep interest in the music of the spirit. Mott’s affecting libretto is inspired by the sacred biblical story of Creation following the unfolding of the seven days.  (Press Release, March, 2009)

Accompanying the concert performance was a professionally designed visual display of interpretive moving imagery, including space photographs by Canadian Astronaut, Steve MacLean.

The performance was recorded by CBC Radio2 for broadcast on Concerts On Demand.

Christmas CD

In November, 2008, we released our first CD, Christmas with the Mississauga Choral Society.  The recording presents a wide range of carols and popular music, including some never-before-recorded Canadian songs.  The content highly compliments arrangements and compositions by well-known and emerging Canadian artists.

Pops with the TSO

For over 10 years, the Toronto Symphony has selected MCS as the choir of choice for their Pops Concert series, most often under the direction of Maestro Erich Kunzel.

...I look forward to each time we perform together because the MCS choristers arrive well prepared, are musically adept, extremely talented, and a joy to direct. The audiences at these performances have been extremely pleased with the choir - they usually give standing ovations and cheer.... My experience has convinced me that the Mississauga Choral Society is an outstanding organization that demonstrates professionalism, spirit, dependability, and commitment. It is indeed a treasure to Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area.
